ECO FASHION WEEK AUSTRALIA 2026 PRESENTS "HANDMADE FOR THE EARTH": A Three-Day Celebration of Handmade Textiles, Heritage Preservation, and Sustainable Fashion Innovation

MIDLAND, WESTERN AUSTRALIA — Eco Fashion Week Australia (EFWA) is proud to announce its flagship event series, Handmade for the Earth, taking place from October 30, 31 to November 1, 2026, at the historic Midland Junction Arts Centre.

Bringing together local, national, and international eco-designers, textile artists, and sustainability advocates, the three-day program celebrates slow fashion, low-impact production, and the art of handmade textiles. The event addresses the environmental impacts of mass-produced fashion by focusing on zero-waste design, natural fibres, upcycling, and slow-craft practices that respect both people and the planet.

Preserving Cultural Heritage & The Buya Subi Project

Central to the Handmade for the Earth mission is the preservation of traditional textile arts facing extinction in the age of fast fashion. This year's program places a special spotlight on the Buya Subi Project, an international EFWA initiative dedicated to safeguarding the endangered handwoven Donggala textiles of Central Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Recognised under the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Partnership Platform (2026–2030), the Buya Subi Project bridges ancestral weaving traditions with global contemporary design. By connecting master women artisans with international designers, the project creates fair-trade economic pathways, preserves invaluable intangible cultural heritage, and offers sustainable alternatives to industrial manufacturing. Attendees will have the opportunity to view these handwoven heritage fabrics up close during dedicated exhibitions and curated high fashion runway showcases

Taking place over three days from 30th & 31st October and 1st November 2026 at the iconic Midland Junction Arts Centre, EFWA26 will transform the centre into a living museum of slow fashion, heritage craft, and conscious design.

In a world of fast fashion, EFWA26 returns to the human hand - where fashion is slowest, most ethical, and most beautiful.
