Donggala, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia — July 2026

EFWA is proud to announce that model Charlize Parkinson has been officially selected by the Central Sulawesi Provincial Government, Indonesia, as the international face of the Buya Subi cultural and sustainability project.

The appointment recognises Charlize’s dedication to ethical fashion, cultural respect, and amplifying Indigenous textile wisdom on the global stage. Buya Subi — meaning - ‘Silk Sarong’ — describes the 300-year-old plant-dye and backstrap loom traditions of the women weavers in Towale Village, Donggala region. The project promotes zero-waste textile practices and a green economy rooted in ancestral knowledge.

During EFWA’s immersion week in Towale Village, July 5–11, 2026, Charlize was honoured in a traditional ceremony by officials and elders of the Tuwali community. She received the title “YAMMAMORE’E”, translating to “Granddaughter of the King”. The title acknowledges her respectful engagement, humility, and commitment to learning from and standing with the community.

“Being welcomed as YAMMAMORE’E is the greatest honour of my life,” Charlize Parkinson said.
“Buya Subi is not just about cloth. It’s about knowledge, respect, and a future where fashion gives back to the earth and the people who care for it. To be trusted by the Central Sulawesi Government and by the women weavers of Tuwali as the international face of this project is humbling. I’m here to listen first, share their stories with care, and help the world understand that the future of fashion is being woven here, thread by thread.”

About the Role
As international face of Buya Subi, Charlize will:

Represent the project globally — bringing the stories, skills, and vision of Tuwali’s weavers to international platforms, from runway to policy rooms.

Advocate for the local artisans — ensuring the artisans remain at the centre of every decision, benefit, and opportunity created by Buya Subi.

Champion plant-dye, zero-waste practices — using her platform to shift fashion conversations from trends to long-term stewardship of land and culture.

“Charlize embodies the values of Buya Subi: respect, reciprocity, and responsibility,” said EFWA Founder.
“This selection by the Central Sulawesi Government is not just recognition of Charlize. It’s recognition of Towale, women artisans, and of a model for fashion that starts with wisdom. We’re honoured to walk this path together.”
