EFWA Buya Subi Project Heads to Vancouver Following in two states Australia Launch

May 02, 2026 in Ethical Fashion, Cultural Heritage

Perth, WA — After acclaimed launch events in Perth and Canberra, Eco Fashion Week Australia announces the next international showcase of the Buya Subi Project will take place in Vancouver, Canada on 9th May 2026.

The Buya Subi Project preserves and promotes endangered Donggala heritage textiles from Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. Handwoven by artisan women, these textiles represent over 300 years of cultural knowledge. EFWA collaborates with contemporary designers to reimagine the fabrics on the runway, creating viable income streams for weavers while positioning traditional craft within sustainable luxury.

“Our Australia events proved there is deep demand for Sustainable fashion that Honors people and place,” said Dr .Zuhal Kuvan-Mills , Founder, EFWA. “The standing ovations in Perth and Canberra weren’t just for the designs — they were for the weavers, the culture, and the future we can build when we value handmade.”

The Vancouver showcase will feature a runway presentation, textile exhibition, and artisan storytelling, engaging Canada’s ethical fashion, design, and Indonesian diaspora communities. The event is supported by the Indonesian consulates and Central Sulawesi government.

About EFWA Buya Subi Project A cultural sustainability initiative protecting Donggala textile heritage, empowering women artisans, and bringing Central Sulawesi’s living craft to global runways. Aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals and UNESCO intangible heritage frameworks.
