Please share a little bit about who you are and what you do in your regular life?
In my life outside of my label I am a regular girl in living in Perth. I have a job I work part time to support my emerging label and I enjoy hanging out with my family and friends. I absolutely love anything to do with the beach or coast or going to new exhibitions or exploring new places.
At what point did you begin to learn about the issue of sustainability in every area of daily life?
I was aware of general Eco-conscious practice from a young age but became properly aware of sustainability through my university studies in fashion. By researching about sustainability within the fashion industry, I have been able to make more sustainable choices with my day-to-day life.
Have you embraced any changes that help you personally leave a smaller ecological footprint?
Yes, avoiding impulsive purchasing and reusing things has allowed me to minimize my impact on the environment. I also use a combination of public transport as well as owning a hybrid car to efficiently and ecologically get around Perth.
How did you meet Zuhal and what led you to become involved with EFWA?
I first met Zuhal when she came to talk about EFWA when it was just developing way back in 2014. She came and spoke to my graduating year in fashion, at Curtin University, to discussion student participation in the first ever EFWA event. We kept in contact, as I was interested in sustainability in fashion and being a part of the first EFWA event which after years of hard work came to be in 2017.
What was it about EFWA's mission that drew you to offer your talents in support of this international event?
As a small start up sustainable fashion label I have met people both inside and outside the fashion industry who have questioned why I have decided to create a label focused on sustainability. Being a part of the EFWA community (a movement that has such a strong resolve to practice sustainability) and meeting like minded designers, creatives, stylists, models and media has been such a motivating and encouraging environment to be a part of.
As a part of the EFWA 2018 team, what role or roles will you be filling?
As the 2018 Director of Education, I am reaching out to universities and institutions to call for student participation in both the Fremantle and Port Douglas events. As EFWA is an inclusive event, calling for participation from a student to international designer level is such an important part of supporting sustainably-minded students and also fostering the educational aspect of EFWA event.
Any last words or a favourite quote on sustainability?
'Buy Less, Choose Well' - Vivienne Westwood
I completely agree with the idea of limiting clothing purchases to quality pieces that will last, as it is a key shift in the prevailing fast fashion mentality.
